PROGRAM NOTES; ALL RUSSIAN PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION:
For our 83rd season we wanted to bring to our audience the first and last works by various of the great composers as well as any compositions that were unique in a composer’s total output. This concert achieves both goals with the first and last of the 15 Shostakovich String Quartets and the Glinka Sextet for Piano, String Quartet and Bass, not only Glinka’s ‘s only work in this form but quite probably the only composition using this exact combination of instruments.
