It?s bad enough that 20 million adults find it great fun to hunt and kill our fellow creatures for sport. But now come intensified efforts to recruit young people to also kill for the sport of it.

Most states have been holding ?junior hunts? and otherwise encouraging kids. Although hunting is largely a macho thing, the new recruits include girls, the most notable of them an eight-year-old girl in Maryland. ..That?s right: eight years old.

The girl, Sierra Stiles, is one of some 10,000 children nationwide who?ve been issued hunting licenses. She?s a third grader who skipped school to go hunting in October. She brought down a 211-pound bear with two shotgun blasts.

?I was scared,? young sierra said, ?because bears will eat anything. I was really, really happy. That bear won?t eat now ? won?t eat a thing.?
