Jazz Odyssey #272 - Live Corea & McLaughlin - Hour 1
From: Chris Kuborn
Series: Jazz Odyssey
Length: 59:01
This week we continue with our Summer of Live Jazz. Featuring two bands that have been playing out live for the past couple of summers. The first is Return To Forever: Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White with added musicians Jean-Luc Ponty and Frank Gambale. The second Five Peace Band with John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Kenny Garrett, Christian McBride and Vinnie Colaiuta. These two groups contain some of the greatest names in Modern Jazz Fusion, and hearing them live is a real treat. RTF brough together recordings during their 2011 tour and FPB was back in 2008. Both groups have long extended tracks on the recordings but you never tire of listening as the tracks have natural flow from one player and idea to another. They keep you intested in so many ways. I love both of these groups - hope you will to and I hope you will see why LIVE music is where this artform we call Jazz really flourishes. You owe it to yourselves and to Jazz to hear as much of it as you can. Enjoy!!
