Evie Ladin is a banjo player, step-dancer, singer, songwriter and square-dance caller with a lifetime of experience in traditional American cultural arts. She grew up in a trad folk scene up and down the Eastern Seaboard of the US, travels the world, and calls the rich arts scene in Oakland, California home. She also tours with The Stairwell Sisters, all-gal old-time teardown, and Keith Terry & Crosspulse, performing rhythm-based multi-cultural music & dance works. She teaches banjo, harmony singing and dance and calls rowdy square dances in the San Francisco Bay Area when you can find her there.

Topics discussed:   Her first musical memory, sea shanties, mom was an international folk dance teacher, growing up with a lot of folk dancing, banjo lessons since six years old, introduced to the Grateful Dead in college, pushing musical boundaries, introduced to African rhythms, inspired by Polly rhythms of African roots, studying African music, moving to the bay area, meeting the stairwell sisters, writing down to the door, beginning a conversation with Keith terry, his early memories of music and love of jazz, seeing Thelonious Monk and deciding he wanted to be a musician, starting to play drums when he was three, becoming interested in clowns and physical comedians,  becoming interested in world music, and ethno musicology, keith's interesting way of playing upright bass guitar, in and not so traditional way, based on his body percussion techniques, also been interested in Indian classical music, specifically percussion.
