It’s common practice for a person developing his or her property to hire an engineering firm. An engineer typically plays a role in designing plans for any given construction project, whether a house, subdivision, commercial building, a church or other structure. And it’s also common practice for a city or town to hire a second engineer to go over those plans and make sure the project won’t cause erosion, drainage problems, or other issues that would adversely affect others in the municipality. But in the Town of Ellettsville, those two engineers are often the same person. The conflict of interest in Ellettsville is the subject of today’s WFHB feature exclusive.
