LOLA VERSUS -- Director/co-writer Daryl Wein interview
From: Andrea Chase
Series: Behind the Scenes
Length: 15:22
When I spoke by phone with Daryl Wein on May 23, 2012, one of the things I most wanted him to expand on was the wonderfully evocative camera work that he used in LOLA VERSUS. More than just well-framed and nicely lit shots, the camera seems to mimic the many moods that Lola goes through. He was delighted to discuss it, as well as why 35mm film will never replace digital in his heart, though monetary considerations might force him to choose the latter over the former. We also covered the pleasures and perils of working with his life and art, Zoe Lister Jones, who co-wrote and co-stars in the film, the importance of Lola, as played by Greta Gerwig, being messy in many sense of the word, and making the films he'd like to see himself.

Intro and Outro
INTRO:Andrea Chase takes you Behind the Scenes of LOLA VERSUS with director/co-writer Daryl Wein. LOLA VERSUS is a psychological comedy that follows the eponymous character as she is blindsided when her first and only serious boyfriend breaks up with her shortly before their wedding. Left as a single woman for the first time in her adult life, she negotiates living alone, rebound sex, the decreasing patience of her friends, and the anti-wisdom of her parents. The film stars Greta Gerwig as Lola and co-stars Joel Kinnaman, Zoe Lister-Jones, Hamish Linklater, Debra Winger, and Bill Pullman. Wein directed from a script he co-wrote with Lister-Jones. Their previous work includes BREAKING UPWARDS, a film about breaking up that they based on their own lives. The break-up, by the way, didn’t take.
