INTRO:Andrea Chase takes you Behind the Scenes of SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED with director and Oakland, California native Colin Trevorrow. SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED is a wry and wistful tale of love, regret, and second chances. Using the now famous classified ad that was actually placed by a would-be time traveler in "Backwoods Home" magazine, it imagines a trio from a Seattle-based magazine looking for the story behind the ad, the three include a journalist with a happy past he can’t quite get over, and his two interns, one with a tragic past she hasn’t gotten over, and one who needs to get a past of some kind. The search leads to a small ocean-side town, and to Kenneth, a loner with a flair for stacking soup cans, novel ideas about the space-time continuum, and rampant paranoia about being thwarted by the government who develops a rapport with Darius, the intern who may have had the least interest in the story going in, but who becomes the most attached to it, and to Kenneth, as the investigation progresses. The film stars Aubery Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, Jenica Bergere, Mary Lynn Risecub, Jeff Garlin, Kristen Bell, and Lynn Shelton at the uptight mom. Treverrow directed from a script by Derek Connolly. This is his feature-film directorial debut.
