JOSEPH O'CONNELL Part 1: BROADCAST 6 / 2 / 2012
IN SEARCH OF A SONG originates in BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA and is sponsored by: THE BLUEBIRD NIGHTCLUB, AIRTIME RECORDING STUDIO, and VISIT BLOOMINGTON.COM
Host Jason Wilber interviews singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Joseph O'Connell. Joseph heads up his rotating member band called 'Elephant Micah', and considers their sound to be an underground folk, minimalist rock, and sonic experimentation project. 'Elephant Micah' is actually the stage name of this Indiana songwriter. Joe has produced an eclectic body of work since beginning the Elephant Micah project in 2000, and his recordings have become cult favorites among some indie and folk-rock audiences.
Topics discussed include: Early memories of music, and how he got into music himself as a teenager, early songwriting efforts and the beginnings of working with established genres of music in a new way, other artists that were representative of this sort of sound that he identified with, and how he began really attempting to write serious songs, his evolution as a songwriter, and involving other musicians rather than just recording everything all on his own, the benefits of collaboration with other musicians, the tricks of recording, and what translates well to the medium of a multi-track recording.
Musical selections include: Still Life Blues, If I Were A Surfer, It's Music, Daniel's Song, Another Fire, Queen of Rocky Ripple, Hidden River Run.
This program is "Evergreen" and not date specific.
