MARK FARNER Part 3: BROADCAST 5 / 26 / 2012
IN SEARCH OF A SONG originates in BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA and is sponsored by: THE BLUEBIRD NIGHTCLUB, AIRTIME RECORDING STUDIO, and VISIT BLOOMINGTON.COM
Host Jason Wilber interviews singer/songwriter/guitarist and rock n' roll icon Mark Farner. Mark began his career as the principle songwriter and the unmistakeable voice, and guitar of the mega power trio Grand Funk Railroad in the late sixties. Throughout the years he worked with producers Todd Rundgren and Frank Zappa with Grand Funk, played with Ringo's All Starr Band, and has produced his own solo albums since the mid seventies.
Topics discussed include: Mark's experiences after Grand Funk, his solo career now, and his thoughts on seeing changes in the music business over the years, as well as his perception off a lack of a moral compass in the mainstream media today. Why he had to stop playing heavy solid wood guitars after a neck surgery. Also, how he was introduced to the guitar he plays now; the lightweight Parker "Fly" guitar, and how his instruments, and even electronics had always inspired writing songs. Playing in Ringo Starr's All Starr Band number 3. Also appearing in this incarnation of the band was Randy Bachman also on guitar, Billy Preston on keyboards, John Entwistle on bass, Ringo's son Zach Starkey on drums, Felix Cavaliere, Mark Rivera, and bandleader Ringo Starr. The difficulties of his solo touring now, a serious development in his family life when his son Jessie had a terrible freak accident, and became a quadrapalegic. Mark also talks about his son's girlfriend Rachel, a nurse from the hospital, and how her love for Jesse has become a beacon of inspiration for his son, his family, and his music. Making a documentary of his life, and what he thinks makes a great song, and his philosophy about making positive music that is an inspiration to others.
Musical selections include: Goin' For The Pastor, Faith Keeps It Away, Social Disaster, Shinin' On, I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home - Ringo Starr's All Starr Band live version), For The People, You Know Who I Am, Same Ol' Feelin'.
This program is "Evergreen" and not date specific.
