MARK FARNER Part 2: BROADCAST 5 / 19 / 2012
IN SEARCH OF A SONG originates in BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA and is sponsored by: THE BLUEBIRD NIGHTCLUB, AIRTIME RECORDING STUDIO, and VISIT BLOOMINGTON.COM
Host Jason Wilber interviews singer/songwriter/guitarist and rock n' roll icon Mark Farner. Mark began his career as the principle songwriter and the unmistakeable voice, and guitar of the mega power trio Grand Funk Railroad in the late sixties. Throughout the years he worked with producers Todd Rundgren and Frank Zappa with Grand Funk, played with Ringo's All Starr Band, and has produced his own solo albums since the mid seventies.
Topics discussed include: Writing one of his first songs from their debut album "On Time" called "Time Machine", writing his song "Foot Stompin' Music" after first getting his Hammond B-3 Organ with two custom Leslie speakers, technical aspects of keeping track of his many song ideas. Grand Funk breaking the Beatles record for attendance at Shea Stadium in New York, and writing his incredible song "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" and attibuting it to a prayer he made to write a song that would reach and touch the hearts of people. Mark's contribution to the song "An American Band", which was produced by Todd Rundgren, and giving Don Brewer complete writing credit for this co-written song. Working with Todd Rundgren as a producer, and some of the things he learned from Todd's experience in the studio. Working with Frank Zappa as producer of Grand Funk's last album together.
Musical selections include: Mister Limousine Driver, Time Machine, Foot Stompin' Music, I'm Your Captain (Closer To Home), We're An American Band, Creepin', Rubberneck
