The ride along program at the Oxford Police department is a new program that started so that the students here at Miami could get a chance to see how a police officer did their job. Whether they wanted to for a class, because they had an interest in police work, or whether they had nothing better to do, the Oxford Police officers have had it all. The officer that I had a chance to get to know, was named Derrick. He has been a police officer for 10 years here in Oxford and he had a lot of insight in what he has seen here in Oxford. Derrick said that the types of calls he gets can range from anything, especially on a weekend night, which he defines as a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Derrick is from Champagne, Illnois. He decided to become a police officer in high school, after going to an open house in Champagne, and decided that the U.S. Marshall job looked really cool....
