The week of April 23rd is a very important time for Ohio schools. Across the state, elementary and middle school students will be taking Ohio Achievement Tests.
Ohio lawmakers are looking closely at third graders and the Third Grade Reading Assessment, which is taken twice a year. In a plan introduced by Governor John Kasich in March, the Third Grade Reading Guarantee will look much closer at third grade students who are struggling in reading.
According an Ohio state document, Governor Kasich is strengthening the Third Grade Reading Guarantee in current law to require the development of a reading intervention and monitoring a program for students who are not proficient in reading-kindergarten through second grade.
