Piece Description
Talking History's Fred Nielsen and author John M. Barry discuss the flu epidemic of 1918 that swept across the world killing millions of people worldwide. According to John Barry, it was the world's most lethal epidemic -- responsible for the deaths of more people in twenty-four weeks than the Black Death killed in a hundred years. Barry is author of The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History. And Christopher Crenner joins us to tell us about Logan Clendening, a medical doctor and popular medical advice columnist in the 1930s. Crenner is Assistant Professor of the History of Medicine and Director of the Clendening History of Medicine Library at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Plus our regular features on History in the News and our Site of the Week, featuring The Clendening History of Medicine Library at The University of Kansas Medical Center.
