Description:

Veteran, popular storyteller brings a contemporary, comical twist to the mystical Afro-Brazillian folktale,"Mae de Agua." Stories about the mysterious "mer" people, who live in the water, have been told since their African origins. Another popular story inspired by the Water Woman stories was Hans Christian Anderson's,"Little Mermaid," which has a tragic ending. The story "Water Women" has a moral of comical comeuppance. This story has been a popular part of Imakhu Mwt Shekemet's repertoire.
