Part One: THE "LATINO" VOTER

OVER THE CENTURIES MANY HUDDLED MASSES HAVE MADE THIS COUNTRY HOME - LEGALLY AND ILLEGALLY – HOPING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE PART OF AMERICA'S LEGACY OF SUCCESS. YET DESPITE ALL THE RHETORIC EMPHASIZING EQUALITY AND OUR "EXCEPTIONALISM" AS A NATION, OUR POLITICAL DEBATE OFTEN SEEMS TO BE HIJACKED BY THE VIEW THAT EACH CONSTITUENCY OR ETHNICITY HAS ITS OWN SEPARATE NEEDS AND CONCERNS – ESPECIALLY LATINOS. OUR GUESTS ARE THE CO-HOSTS OF MARYKNOLL'S SPANISH LANGUAGE RADIO PROGRAM VOCES DE NUESTRO MUNDO FRANCISCO SUAREZ AND KAREN COPER, AND THE EDITOR OF REVISTA MAGAZINE DAVID AQUIJE.

Part Two: THE "LATINO" VOTER

CONVENTION POLITICAL WISDOM HAS IT THAT IMMIGRATION AND CUBA ARE THE MAIN CONCERNS OF LATINOS VOTERS, AND THE CHOSEN STANCE ON THESE POINTS OF CONTENTION CAN MAKE, OR BREAK, ONES' POLITCAL ASPIRATIONS. BUT WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT CASTRO'S CUBA OR OUR IMMIGRATION POLICY ARE IMPORTANT ISSUES, ARE THEY REALLY WHAT MOTIVATES LATINO VOTERS THESE DAYS? WHAT ABOUT EDUCATION, THE ECONOMY, HEALTHCARE --- OR THE MANY OTHER ISSUES THAT AFFECT ALL AMERICANS, REGADLESS OF RACE, ETHNICITY, OR FIRST LANGUAGE? OUR GUESTS ARE THE CO-HOSTS OF MARYKNOLL'S SPANISH LANGUAGE RADIO PROGRAM VOCES DE NUESTRO MUNDO FRANCISCO SUAREZ AND KAREN COPER, AND THE EDITOR OF REVISTA MAGAZINE DAVID AQUIJE.
