Review of Earned Income Kitty Credit

After listening to this piece, I looked at my cat with new found respect. The kids are grown, the poodle is on his last legs, but my cat, ah, yes, my cat is still running the household. This piece will be timely around tax season and is amusing and well done. It will fit in well before or after Marketplace or another business magazine.

Cat people can speak endlessly about their felines. I know, I am a cat person. This commentary is mostly for such folk, but there's lots of us out there. Amusing, though not a laugh riot. Nice, quick, tax-time commentary. sl

I recently got some tax software so I could e-file my taxes from home and get my tax return as soon as possible. I also got it so I wouldn't have to claw through mountains of tax publications to find out what I can and cannot deduct. The software simply asks me all kinds of intrusive questions to see if I'm living honestly and also to see if I meet the criteria for more software that they would be only too happy to sell me. One of the things they wanted to know was if I had any dependents so I could qualify for an Earned Income Credit.

Now, I'm single with no kids, but I do have a dependent, and frankly I don't know why I can't get an Earned Income Credit for my cat.
