In January of 2012, I went on the North Carolina Truth and Hope Poverty Tour hosted by the NC NAACP and the UNC-CH Poverty Center--a two day bus ride traveling through the most poverty-stricken parts of eastern North Carolina. We met with townspeople and attended open meetings at town halls and generous churches. Among the 60 people on the bus, I interviewed a few people about their experiences and their unique thoughts on the tour.
