Nubby spike
Pulled from the ground
Bold as the sky when the sun goes down.
This is a riddle about a carrot. It's one of my favorites. I like the tactile coarseness of the nubby carrot and the references to both the ground under our feet and the sky over head. The fertile ground nurtures and harbors the growing carrot, and the sky at sunset illustrates the briliant orange of a carrot ready to harvest. The ordinary mingled with the spectacular. Isn't that the case with every living thing?
NEW RIDDLE:
Internal barometer
Coming with age
The more it is damaged
The better the gauge.
