Welcome to the Broadway matinee, songs from the stage and screen. I'm Janean Jorgensen. As the mother of an elementary school student, I believe in exposing kids to the theater. However, the songs on today's program are about exposure of a completely different kind. The world's Oldest profession - prostitution - is a factor in a surprising number of musicals. Maybe when you think about it, it's not all THAT surprising. Novels are filled with sordid tales, and many musicals are based on literary works. Take Leonard Bernstein's Candide, based on Voltaire's social satire, where the enginue is captured and forced to be a plaything, with some bejeweled compensation. This is Christy-anne Noll.
