Write a title song for a film, the title of which consists of a single word…. A man’s first name. And, a not very “romantic” sounding first name at that! – But, when Paramount Pictures calls, one does not take that lightly! …And, a working composer and lyricist team does their best to create something worthwhile, relevant, and meaningful. Knowing that the film was a good one and likely to be a success, David and Bacharach gave themselves three weeks to come up with a quality song, and knew they were on the right track when David, studying the script, came upon the lead character’s line, “What’s it all about”?....
