They ring
But never make a sound
They ring when fretful thoughts abound.
This is a riddle about wringing hands. It's a lovely play on words. Unlike the jarring clang of ringing bells, the anxious wringing of hands tells a silent but articulate story of fretful, unsettling thoughts. Word plays are at the heart of many riddles. Like this one about high rise apartments: "I have stories I can't tell, stories in which people dwell." It's a fun riddle. We have the multi-stories of the tall buildings ... and the human stories of the people living in them. "If only these walls could talk."
NEW RIDDLE:
Nubby spike
Pulled from the ground
Bold as the sky
When the sun goes down.
(answer: see 1/28/12 piece)
