Nancy_8916 An aspiring musician with a name like Egbert Van Alstyne would surely be expected to pursue a career steeped in the classics, but young Egbert, born in 1878, chose a career in popular music in stead.  In 1905, Van Alstyne composed the first of the tunes for which he is best rememered: " In The Shade Of The Old Apple Tree". He wrote many more hits, but by the time 1931 came around when he wrote our featured song for today, Van Alstyne's successes were fewer and farther between, and it became his most performed work.  Written in collaboration with Haven Gillespie and Victor Young, here's "Minnesota's Voice" Nancy Harms, with Van Alstyne's "Beautiful Love".
