Etta_small In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, it's the retirement album of Etta James. "The Dreamer" has come out at at time when reports of James's health indicate that she is quite ill and unable to perform, but this album, her first since 2006, finds her in full command of her powers, and includes some inventive reworkings of old and not so old songs. We'll also play a track from guitarist Kenny Burrell's new live solo album "Tenderly" recorded in 2009, and some unusual blues in 3/4 time from organist Joey DeFrancesco and his trio, plus folk bluesman Eric Bibb in concert in Sweden, a song he wrote, newly recorded by Maria Muldaur, and some previously unissued Coltrane from 1960, recorded at The Jazz Gallery in Greenwich Village. Also a hit song from the new Ray Charles boxed set "Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles" and the actual demo record he learned it from.
