SARAH LILLEY: I'm in an elevator on my way up to the top floor of the New Museum.
[elevator door opening, then birdsong echoing in gallery]
CARSTEN HÖLLER: Sometimes it feels to me like somebody's tickling my brain, you know, when I'm hearing birdsong -- especially when it's live...
SL: That's Carsten Höller. He's a 50-year-old Belgian guy who lives in Sweden, and this is his show. I've found myself standing under a giant hanging mobile adorned with 7 canary cages. Those little birds you hear are real, and they're quite vocal.

Intro and Outro
INTRO:Right now at New York's New Museum there's a show on view which has been getting a lot of attention. Normally, when you walk through an exhibit, you're told repeatedly not to touch, not to stand too close. Well, there are pieces in this show that you can climb onto, ride, wear on your head, stick your head into, smell -- even eat. It's the work of an artist who has taken a somewhat unusual path to the artworld, and it shows. Producer Sarah Lilley has the story.
OUTRO:Carsten Höller's exhibit at the New Museum in New York is on view through January 15th [2012].
