In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, a show for the holidays, featuring a new holiday album from Doug Munro and La Pompe Attack. Guitarist Munro leads a quintet in the direction of Django Reinhardt & the Hot Club Of France, as he interprets a bunch of seasonal favorites on a new release called "A Very Gypsy Christmas." The name of the band, La Pompe Attack, is a reference to so-called "La Pompe" rhythm Munro uses in many of the songs - - the pumping rhythm that Django Reinhardt pioneeered in France in the 1930s that replaced the role of a drummer in the band. Munro and his band Django-ize a bunch of songs heard frequently this time of year, and we've got a few of them on this show.
We'll also visit the holiday album "Set For The Season" from singer Nicole Henry and her trio, recorded live in Japan. We have some holiday blues from Jimmy Dawkins, Chick Wllis, and Sam Myers, plus a holiday favorite from McCoy Tyner, a seasonal snippet from James Taylor, and a song from Etta James, who unfortunately is now facing terminal illness, coming up in this hour of The Blues & Beyond.
