Special Guest: Steve Miles - Part 1 (Four-Part Series)
Steve Miles is a 30-year veteran of the wine industry. In 2006, after over a decade managing the prestigious catalogue of Eric Solomon, another highly regarded importer, Steve decided to found his own import company. Steve Miles Selections focuses on Spain, which is, in my opinion, one of the most exciting places for wine values in the world.
According to Steve, “Wine should taste as much like where it came from as what it’s made from.” Unfortunately, wine-making across the globe has suffered from an increasingly homogenized style, and certain examples from Spain are no exception. One of the central goals of SMS (Steve Miles Selections) is to select wines that show a strong sense of place. In addition, Steve is adamant about wines that far outperform their price point. I guess you could say I am a big fan of SMS, and listeners should take note: a great way to take the risk out of buying wine is to get to know your importers. Find one or a few that you suit your palate, and look for their names one the back of the bottle. In addition to SMS and Eric Solomon, I also really like Kermit Lynch.
What's the Juice? explores the vast world of fine wine, beer, and spirits in a laid back style appealing to both the novice and connoisseur. Hosted by Brad Dunn, Certified Wine Specialist and Bloomington's first Certified Sommelier, with co-host Leslie Thomas.
