INTRO:In 2009, a documentary called The Cove was released.
Audio: COVEINTRO
The documentary took viewers to a place in Taiji Japan where local fisherman hunt dolphins. They herd dolphins into a cove surrounded by cliffs. There, healthy dolphins are captured to sell to dolphin parks around the world. Deformed dolphins are killed and gutted for meat.
Elora West is a 17 year old from Edmonds, Washington. She saw The Cove. And then, her father invited her to witness the hunt first hand.
He’s an environmental activist with Sea Sheppard, a group that works to stop the hunting of sea life. He was taking part in an effort to monitor the hunt with a group calling themselves “Cove Guardians”.
RadioActive's Amina al-Sadi [AH-min-uh al SAH-dee] brings us the story of what Elora saw when she joined the activists on a cliff above the water.
