Dr. Gregory Schmidt from Winona State University's History Department recently gave a talk on the Boatmen of the early 1800's at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona. Today we present highlights from his presentation which covered the lifestyle of the boatmen and the different vessels they worked and lived on. Dr. Schmidt even fills us in on Mark Twain and how his writing was influenced by these hardened river characters and gives us a glimpse of who Mike Fink really was. After the talk, stay tuned a quick audience Q and A session, and for a short interview with Dr. Schmidt about his interest in history. Teri Tenseth hosts this episode of "Culture Clique".
