Intro and Outro
INTRO:It was a Sunday morning in early December, when an attack on Pearl Harbor stunned a nation. Seventy years ago today [DEC 7, 1941], two waves of Japanese aircraft attacked the US Pacific Fleet, moored at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Within two hours, five battleships had been sunk and almost 200 aircraft destroyed.
The human toll was astonishing. The surprise bombs and explosions and bullets killed 2,400 Americans.
One of the survivors was Jim Peacock, a young sailor from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He remembers the infamous day in this story produced by Curt Nickisch. [NICK-ish].
