Part One: HIV/AIDS AND THE AFTERLIFE

GLADLY, THANKS TO RECENT MEDICAL ADVANCEMENTS AND INCREASED AWARENESS, PREVENTION, AND TREATMENT CAMPAIGNS, WE FIND OURSELVES TALKING MORE AND MORE ABOUT LIVING WITH HIV, AND LESS ABOUT DYING FROM AIDS. AND SOME ARGUE THAT THE KEY TO TRULY COMPREHENSIVE AND EFFECTIVE TREATMENT AND PREVENTION, IS GAINING A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CUSTOMS, CULTURES, AND RELIGIONS OF THE MILLIONS AFFECTED BY HIV/AIDS WORLDWIDE. JOIN US AS WE VISIT NAIROBI, KENYA TO EXPLORE HOW STUDYING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HIV/AIDS, IMMORTALITY, AND THE AFTERLIFE AS SEEN THROUGH ANOTHER CULTURE’S EYES, CAN ASSIST US AS WE ADDRESS THE CHALLENGE OF HIV IN THIS LIFE, HERE ON EARTH.

Part Two HIV/AIDS AND THE AFTERLIFE

ACCORDING TO A RECENT REPORT FROM THE UNITED NATIONS PROGRAM ON HIV/AIDS, THE ESTIMATED NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV IN KENYA IS 1.3 MILLION TO 1.6 MILLION, OR ROUGHLY 6.3 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL POPULATION. AND MANY KENYANS ARE STILL NOT BEING REACHED WITH HIV PREVENTION AND TREATMENT SERVICES, WITH JUST UNDER HALF OF ADULTS WHO NEED TREATMENT AND ONLY 1 IN 3 CHILDREN NEEDING TREATMENT RECEIVING IT. IN LIGHT OF THESE DAUNTING STATICTICS, FR. MARIUS HOPED THAT HIS THESIS ABOUT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HIV/AIDS, IMMORTALITY, AND THE AFTERLIFE, COULD HELP ADDRESS THE PROBLEM.
