Transcript

When you’re a lobsterman, there are all kinds of ways to lose money. Rob Martin is repairing his boat. It’s 40 feet long, with a small cabin in front, and big flat working deck in back – like a huge pickup truck on the water.

[marina ambi]

The engine died two weeks ago. Rob and his mechanic are perched over it with a blowtorch. If the repair works, he’ll be back on the water tomorrow.

[start blowtorch sound]
[rob] – I hope so, yeah […] knock on wood [knocking]

Rob needs to be out fishing as much as possible at this time of year – to get him through the winter – and pay for the new engine. He’s been losing sleep.

[rob] - My daughter already reminded me how many days there are till Christmas – she’s already excited about that – I’ve gotta start my Christmas shopping.
[rob] – I’m still in summer mode [blowtorch off] now it’s almost the middle of November so we’ll see what happens....
