It's been almost a year since troops from Fort Hood in Killeen began deploying to Iraq. 25-thousand troops from the base are now on active duty. That?s more than a quarter of the city's total population. KUT's Steven Cuevas spent the day in Killeen and reports that the effect of the soldiers' absence is being felt in subtle and not so subtle ways.
Originally aired January 23, 2004 on KUT 90.5 FM Austin, TX.
