Spring in November 2011
A Few Good Men
In the southern hemisphere, spring has arrived in Buenos Aires. Here the sunshine holds the promise, rather than the fact, of summer’s searing heat. The purple of jacaranda and scarlet red of ceibo trees daily curtsy deeper in the soft breezes on every street. In San Telmo new young trees have been planted that are sparkling in yellow blossoms. The swallows too have arrived, dipping in and out of the docks where I walk. I asked if any of them had come down from Blackberry Farm, but they refused to answer. They were more concerned about finding a home in the old trawler that is anchored and rocking gently in the dique, resting like an old actor who may never work again.
