Hawaii-five-0-on-beach700_small Hawaii is becoming a growing hub for TV and Film production thanks to the series reboot of "Hawaii Five-0," and other recent TV productions filmed in the Aloha State. The show's Season 2 Premiere in Hawaii drew fans from as far away as Europe and Australia. Filming in Hawaii lends a certain authenticity which can't be recreated on a sound stage says executive producer Peter Lenkov. The original Five-O helped develop Hawaii's TV and film industry.

Several recent movies filmed in the islands have also been generating more publicity, including "Pirates of the Carribbean," "Soul Surfer, and now "The Descendants," starring George Clooney. "The Descendants" was directed by Alexander Payne. This is his latest movie since the Oscar-winning "Sideways." "Shooting in Hawaii is one the reasons I wanted to make this film and not just for the obvious reasons..." says Payne. ("The Descendants" opens nationwide in theatres this week.)

This piece also looks at how Hawaii's unique tax incentives help the state compete with other film locations, nationally and globally.

For years, Hawaii has been a popular destination for tourists, but now it’s making a name for itself as a hub for TV and film production. And as Heidi Chang reports, a reboot of the 1960s police drama “Hawaii Five-O,” which helped develop the state’s movie industry decades ago, is once again boosting its economy.
