Many tech fans know that the World Wide Web was invented in Switzerland in 1989. But before that, France had invented something that was sort of like it - the Minitel - about a decade earlier. At one point about a third of French households had a Minitel. It was pretty innovative for the time. In fact, I remember watching my uncle use it once in his country house outside Paris to check the Tour de France scores in the early 1990s. But with the rise of the Web, the Minitel's numbers have been falling steadily. And so, just last month, France Telecom decided to shut down the famed service on June 30, 2012. Molly Guinness reports from Paris.
