“That’s My Song” is a way to introduce yourself to our radio listeners using a song that has some personal meaning for you.  To produce this work, you will need to choose a song that has meaning for you now or in the past.  This could be a song that reminds you of a specific time or place or person.  If you are a musician, you are welcome to choose a song that you wrote.

Reflecting on the song you have chosen, write a commentary that represents the meaning this song has in your life.  Your writing should allow our listeners to get a better sense of you as a person.  This does not need to be a direct introduction of yourself or of the song you have chosen (but it can be).  We encourage you to be creative and have some fun with your writing.

Next, listen to your song and consider how your commentary may be integrated with your song.  Can the clips from the song be used at certain spots in the script?  Can the song play softly in the background of your voice (as a “sound bed”)?  How can the song be mixed in so that it best supports your writing?  Make some notes about how these two elements will interact.  These notes should be clear enough so that someone else can do the pre-production work to edit your voice and your song together.

You will be asked to read your script to other members of the group so that you can gain their feedback and incorporate their suggestions into your work.  After this peer-editing process, you should practice your voicing as best you can and be ready to record your reading of your script.
