About a hundred years ago in India, a math teacher named Ram Tirth became frustrated at the attitude of his students. They were constantly arguing among themselves and trying to prove each other wrong in order to become "the smartest." One day before class while they were all quarrelling over the assignment they had, Ram Tirth came in and said, "I have a another assignment for all of you." For a moment it was quiet while he drew a straight line about two feet long on the blackboard. He then told them "Make this line shorter." The class erupted with yells of "That's Easy!" and "No problem!" as several of the boys began fighting over the eraser. However, before they reached the board Ram Tirth added, "But make it shorter without touching it." Suddenly the noise stopped, and the students looked, dumbfounded at the board.
