Nirmala Rajasekar is an award-winning musician specializing in South Indian Carnatic music. At the age of six she began training on the Veena-a plucked stringed instrument from the region-and has been performing around the world for more than 25 years. Today Nirmala is the artistic director for the Naadha Rasa (Esscence of Tone) Center for Music in Plymouth, Minnesota. She continues to travel and perform Carnatic music, and also composes and collaborates with artists from other genres, including poet Robert Bly. Nirmala is showcased in many recordings and has three CDs on the Innova label. Produced for KFAI by Dixie Treichel.
