In Biology News......

Researchers from University of Washington, St Louis have discovered a new mammal that has the ability to sing. Research has shown that mice sing in ultrasonic frequencies to attract mates. These complex love songs set them apart from most mammals and place mice in a catagory with human beings, bats, porpoises and whales. Researchers stumbled onto this doscovery by accident while studying the effect of sex pheromones in male mice. When male mice encountered the female scent they began to sing in a frequency above human hearing. The songs, resembling birdsong, were found to be composed of several types of syllables arranged in regular, repeated time signatures. These songs have been recorded and their pitch has been lowering to the range of human hearing so we can hear the patterns and tempo. More details on this study can be found...
