In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, contemporary Chicago blues musicians pay tribute to their predecessors on a new album "Chicago Blues A Living History The (R)evolution Continues," a followup to a 2009 Living History album, featuring harmonica player Billy Boy Arnold, guitarist John Primer and others, many of whom were also on the first album. Included is a new version of the song "Somebody Loan Me Dime" and a version by its composer Fenton Robinson, who didn't initially get the credit he deserved for the song when Boz Scaggs had a hit with it. We'll also play a couple of songs from the album "Mistakes Were Made" a retrospective of Broke & Hungry Records, a label devoted to modern rural Mississippi blues - - and we're glad they made the "mistakes" of issuing these songs! Also, new jazz from trumpeter Sean Jones, a strong album called "No Need For Words" though we may expend a few praising it, and the latest from pianists Hiromi Uehara and Skip Wilkins - - each with a new trio recording. We'll hear from Swiss singer-songwriter Eliane Amherd, and Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica, a group that revives and improves the style of music known as "exotica," a sort of music that, in the 1960s, was characterized by phony nature sounds and fake bird calls. Mr. Ho, aka vibraphonist Brian O'Neill, makes it real.
