*** WILDLIFE POACHING ***
ERIC WHITNEY: State wildlife officials believe someone is poaching endangered wildcats in southwestern Colorado. Last week, two radio tracking collars that had been on lynx, that are being re-introduced to the state, were found in the San Juan mountains. One was dropped into a mailbox in Silverton. The other one was found in the forest north of Durango after it began transmitting a mortality signal to a satellite. That collar belonged to a female lynx who gave birth to three kittens this summer. Wildlife officials believe that without their mother, there is little chance her litter will survive. Victor Locke of station KSUT in Ignacio has more.
VICTOR LOCKE: Joe Lewandowski, a spokesman for the Durango Division of Wildlife [field office] says it’s feared the two lynx, which are federally protected, may have been poached.
