Page Wilson: Into the Blue

Page Wilson was a singer and a song writer and host of the most popular music show in Richmond, Virginia. Called the Out of the Blue Radio Revue, it aired for 14 years on WCVE the NPR affiliate here. This, too: Page did more to promote local bands in this city than anyone else ever did and his ego would fill up a room like helium inflating a balloon. Read the full description.

Page Wilson died last March, and the Richmond music scene will never be quite the same. Page was a player, singer, songwriter and host of the most popular “real music” radio show in Richmond—Out of the Blue Radio Revue. Decidedly non-clear channel.  It was the local equivalent of “A Prairie Home Companion” where Lake Wobegon became the Chickahominy Swamp. Its creator had an ego the size of Texas. And he was obstreperous as an oilman. But he had a heart, and a generosity of spirit toward his fellow musicians, that was on par with Alaska, and just that wide open and damned near as wild. To say he’ll be missed—by musicians and music lovers alike—is an understatement.
