This was recorded while Jonathan and his artists were setting up for their first post-Katrina show, at the AAF Contemporary Art Fair in New York. Jonathan has closed his gallery in New Orleans, rented it out to a roofing contractor and embarked upon a tour called "Artists in Exile" in the hope of keeping New Orleans art alive and artists creating while the city's being rebuilt.
There is a bit of narration from the producer in between clips from Jonathan Ferrara, Miranda Lake (artist), Dan Tague (curator/artist) and Ashle Huck (gallery director).
A bit of music too.

INTRO:
Earlier this year (feb), American Style magazine voted New Orleans the Number One arts destination for mid-sized cities – up from 17th place last year. Artists from the city say that leap reflects huge strides made by their community in recent years, making New Orleans not just a place for artists to live and work but a competitive location for showing and selling. That was pre-Katrina. Now with many artists displaced around the United States, and art-buying a low priority in Louisiana, the picture is very different. Gallery owner, Jonathan Ferrara, has closed up shop, and leased his space to a roofing contractor for a year, to embark upon a tour called ‘Artists in Exile’ - If the buyers won’t come to him, he’ll take the artwork to them. Reporter Rachel Bonham Carter caught up with him in New York…
