October 2011
Film Festival Cities,
Excluding the big three grand dames of cinema; Cannes, Venice and Berlin, wherever October is autumn, with the hope of rain, there too are film festivals. With festival films come audiences that spend money. From New York to Point Reyes, festivals are growing. Some like San Francisco in the U.S. and Ghent in Belgium have added workshops and lectures to increase the cultural appeal of cinema along with film screenings and prizes.
This October found us taking the train from London to La Roche sur Yon in France for a small festival and then heading north to Ghent in Belgium for the Ghent film festival with its focus on music in film.
We stopped in Paris for a radio interview in a studio bigger in size that the entire KWMR station and spent a night in the city before a morning train took us to La Roche.
Paris soon gives way to farmland which changes...
