In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, music from two former members of the Muddy Waters Blues Band who have recently passed away, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith and Mojo Buford. Harmonica player Buford was in and out of the Muddy Waters band from the 1950s through the 80s. Smith, who played drums with Muddy, played harmonica, when he led his own bands. We'll hear them as band leaders in their own right, and as members of the Muddy waters Blues Band, including a hard-to-find recording from the Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival in 1972 (not issued on CD). Also new music from the vibrant Trombone Shorty, who actually plays several instruments in addition to trombone, and a new album, "Chano y Dizzy," from percussionist Poncho Sanchez and trumpeter Terence Blanchard paying tribute to two departed partners in jazz, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and percussionist Chano Pozo - plus a posthumously released album by guitarist Cornell Dupree, who played on thousands of sessions, including albums by Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, and Joe Cocker.
