Dressing the Part.
The Indian Summer that swung into the British Isles from the Western colonies has finally left. Leaves that have been burnt to a crisp by the hot early October sunshine now fall from their trees as quickly as they can rolling away into the gutters of the city streets, as if ashamed of their final frivolous fling in the sunshine.
In the countryside the hedgerows are also muting into autumn colours, withdrawing inward with only an occasional sprig of orange rose - hips to brighten our way into the coming frost. The country is dressing for autumn.
As do we. The summer holidays are over, children and university students are beginning a new school year. Both the Conservative and Labour parties of the government hold their annual party conferences where there is a lot of posturing, in style, attitude and words.
