Series: Blues & Beyond
From: WXPN
Length: 00:59:00
In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, it's a new album from pianist Lisa Hilton called Underground. Critically acclaimed for a long time, Hilton has slowly been acquiring well-deserved recognition from the general jazz public as well. She's been described variously as an "impressionist" and a "lioness of jazz/" We'll go underground with Lisa Hilton, and hear the late Jaki Byard playing solo piano from the late 1970s from a new release of his solo performances - - and we will go back to the early 1920s to hear piano rolls recorded by Clarence "Jelly" Johnson now available on CD from Delmark Records. Also, we have new acoustic blues from Eric Bibb, from his new album "Troubadour Live," and Mississippi bluesman Pat Thomas, from the Broke & Hungry Records retrospective album called "Mistakes Were Made" - - we're sure glad they were! Also boogie woogie from classic master Meade "Lux" Lewis and contemporary star of the style Lluis Coloma of Barcelona. We'll also hear the latest from the great South African pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim, from his album "Sotho Blue."
