You cannot see molecules, but human-made chemicals flow through every living thing on earth today and have a profound impact on every person’s life, for good or for ill, from before the day they are born to the day they die. Green chemistry applies the designs, processes, and principles of natural systems and organisms to address a wide range of technological challenges. In this program we’ll examine how a new science of green chemistry that is neither conventional biochemistry nor biotechnology is being applied to solve problems ranging from carpets to water quality. What are the possibilities and what are the constraints on applying such a methodology more broadly to clean up both our products and our industrial processes?
