RN Documentary: Colombia - A Traumatised Nation
Series: RN Documentaries
From: Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Length: 00:29:30
Colombia's 40-year-old civil war has affected just about everyone. Massacres happen on a regular basis. There are bombings, kidnappings, and clashes between the various rebel groups and the military.
The victims and their family members often suffer from depression, alcoholism, drug abuse and violence within the family.
In recent years, charities and the government have begun making the link between the ongoing violence and the need to treat trauma victims. But so many people are in need of help and the country is so big that up until now only small initiatives have been undertaken.
