Justice Department Files Suit to Block Anti-Competitive AT&T Merger
The Justice Department delivered good news to consumers on Wednesday when it filed suit to block the proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile. Public interest groups applauded the move and are encouraged by the DoJ’s willingness to resist AT&T’s extensive lobbying efforts and review the evidence. Acting Assistant Attorney General Sharis Pozen said the decision was reached after an “exhaustive investigation.”
Sharis Pozen: Unless this merger is blocked, competition and innovation in the mobile wireless market in the form of low prices, innovative wireless handsets, operating systems and calling plans will be diminished. And consumers will suffer.
